Photo: Bill Horne February 18 Opening Night One of Norman Yates' earliest memories is of the prairies of his youth, "not perceived as form but as limitless space and light." Yates taught painting at the University of Alberta for more than thirty years. A career later, this concern continues to evolve and fascinate him. In the studio he surrenders entirely to the act of creation. Without planning, he pushes, pulls and pours paint, intuitively producing powerful abstracted paintings that are at times as turbulently Turneresque as they can be quiet, meditative and peaceful. This exhilarating exhibition, charged with colour, movement and light, explores his work of the last decade. February 19 - May 2, 2010
