Learn from fashion and costume designer Catherine Ruddell! Fee per session: $35

  • Basic Concepts in Fashion Illustration

    Thursday, Sept 28th: 6-9pm | 1 Session 

    Facilitator: Catherine Ruddell (Fashion & Costume Designer)

    Catherine previously trained and worked as a designer in the fashion industry, and has also managed costumes for theatre productions. In this course you will learn to draw your own croquis figure, as well as explore techniques for rendering different fabric fold, drape and texture on paper. By the end of the class you will be able to draw out your own fashion garments or costumes on your croquis figure with confidence.

  • Slow Fashion & Japanese Hand Mending

    Thursday, Oct 12th: 6-9pm | 1 Session 

    Facilitator: Catherine Ruddell (Fashion & Costume Designer)

    Incorporating block printed thrift store textiles we will cut patches and learn basic Boro mending with Sashiko stitches to repair the torn knees in your favourite pair of denim jeans. The Slow Fashion movement is about recognizing hand craftsmanship and minimizing the planetary impacts associated with our wardrobes. All skill levels welcome, we will embrace the wabi sabi aesthetic in our work – accepting imperfections.

    Participants are to bring one (or multiple) denim items to repair.
